Freshmen Qualifiers Look To Carry The Load For Talented Bishop State CC

-

The Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) has seen its fair share worth of changes this off-season, with several coaching changes and a new conference re- alignment. With all this in play it’s safe to say the ACCC Men’s Basketball race will up for the taking this upcoming year.

After a strong showing this past weekend I feel confident in saying Bishop State Community College (AL) is set to make a splash in this upcoming season behind a team loaded with freshman qualifiers. Desean Sellers, Marvin McGhee, and Kedar Bodie all had strong showings in Birmingham, and looked poised to carry the load for their team.

Desean Sellers, hailing from Wenonah High in Birmingham, AL, has already started to garner attention from several Division 1 programs. Alabama A&M was the first to offer him a scholarship after this weekend, while schools like IUPUI, Mississippi State, Southern Miss, and Kennesaw State have all also reached out to express their interest. Sellers is a triple threat player, known for his exceptional shot-fake, quick first step, and understanding of angles. Being such an explosive athleticism and being able to handle the ball makes him a formidable force on the court.

Marvin McGhee, a 6’6″ qualifier, brings his winning mentality to Bishop State CC from Alexander High in Georgia, where he helped his team secure the 6A state championship. McGhee, a combo guard, possesses excellent court vision and a reliable 3-point shot. Alabama A&M also offered him after the weekend, and IUPUI, Cal St Bakersfield, and Kennesaw State have all shown interest in recruiting him. His size, the ability to play PG if needed, and his shot-making ability make him a prototypical D1 level player.

Kedar Bodie, a 6’4″ combo guard from Augusta, GA, impressed our staff with his shooting and overall play-making ability over the weekend. He displays the skill to play on the ball, handling it effectively and making timely reads. Still early in his recruitment process, but Bodie has the opportunity to develop further and become an integral part of Bishop State CC’s success this upcoming season.
