Teams will have to accumulate a total of FIFTEEN (15) CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS to qualify for the NYBL GLOBAL CHAMPIONSHIPS.
The number of points for winning each CHALLENGE BRACKET will be TEN (10) POINTS. REGISTERED TEAMS earn FIVE (5) POINTS based on their participation at each NYBL CHALLENGE with an emphasis placed on wins and high finishes. NYBL CHAMPIONSHIP Points are awarded by bracket finish position as defined in the point distribution tables. These points accrue over the NYBL CHALLENGE SERIES and determine a team's standing and eligibility for the NYBL GLOBAL CHAMPIONSHIPS.
Additionally, a team can earn bonus CHAMPIONSHIP points for the following:
- THREE (3) points for WINNERS of NYBL Invitationals
- TWO (2) points for WINNERS of NYBL Affiliate Tournaments.
- Bonus Points are added on to a team's total at the conclusion of the NYBL CHALLENGE SERIES.
The NYBL is the staple of independent grassroots basketball and the premier league of middle school and junior high school basketball circuits. The NYBL was established in 2013 and has become the #1 independent circuit of its kind. An independent circuit marked with ten (10) McDonald’s All-Americans and eight (8) NBA draft picks. The NYBL provides the visibility, benefits, and experience of the elite shoe circuits, coupled with the flexibility, logistical, and financial effectiveness required to run an elite program.
YES! All NYBL Challenges are open to all 4th – 10th Grade Teams.
Grade-based teams 4th (2029) – 10th (2023) travel teams.
Each NYBL Challenge will be held at a state-of-the-art, multi-court facility in the best locations around the country. The HQ venue is where the majority of the games will take place with additional off-site venues for each Challenge announced at a later date. All teams need to be prepared to play at any of the venues of each event.
The tournament schedule will be finalized and released by 10:00pm on Tuesday night of the week of the Challenge. The schedule will be published at www.independenthoops.com
The deadline to register is 11:00 PM, seven days prior to the Challenge start date, or when we have reached capacity in any grade division.
We strongly recommend registering as soon as possible to guarantee your spot in the event.
As part of our contactless initiatives, general admission is offered for our events ONLINE ONLY. No cash at the gate. Daily and Weekend Options are available. Please purchase your tickets at independenthoops.com. Our staff will scan the barcode at the gate where you will receive a wristband for access to the facility. No refunds.
All payments made to Independent Hoops/ NYBL are irrevocable and non-refundable. In some cases, Teams will be provided an event credit.
You are required to compete in all games you are scheduled to play in. If for any reason you cannot attend a game, you are required to communicate and notify the Executive Committee at least 12 hours prior to your game start time. Failure to notify the Tournament Director will result in team banishment from all NYBL Challenges for one full event calendar year.
